Wake up America! The next President needs to fix a lot of issues! First are the taxes.
Taxes should be utilized to spread the wealth evenly across America. The high class don’t need more money, the lower class does! People with higher salaries should be taxed more and people with lower salaries should be taxed less. As the lower class gets more money and gets richer, the higher class will get less rich and the two different classes will slowly get to the middle class.
The death penalty isn’t needed. It costs more money to give someone the death penalty than keep him or her in jail for the rest of his or her life. Cheaper criminals mean fewer taxes. Additionally, if the person on death row is innocent, they have the rest of their lives for more evidence to be discovered and possibly prove their innocence. Someone alive and innocent is better than someone dead and innocent.
Illegal immigration should get more attention. When illegal immigrants enter the country and aren’t citizens, they don’t have to pay taxes which increases our taxes to carry their financial weight. It’s annoying knowing that, although we all have to pay, they refuse to.
Teachers should get paid more, even if it isn’t much. Although it would increase our taxes, teachers have one of the most important jobs in the country and should get rewarded for it. It would influence the growth of the teaching industry.
Getting into colleges should not revolve around your SAT score. A student more than worthy of entering a good college may be bad with tests and get a lower score than they should have. Colleges are too focused on that when they should be focused on the more important things like grades.
Jeff, you economic plan, though it may seem like the best idea ever, realistically will not work. That is socialism. We are a capitalist nation. The members of the upper class (most likely) worked hard to earn the money they do. Sure, some people have more money than they could ever need and will probably never need it, but you will never be able to convince them the someone else deserves it more than them. Besides, if the lower class just received money to make things more fair, what would their incentive to work be? And if the rich had to give away their money to the lower class, what would be their incentive to work at high-paying, very needed jobs? Take a garbage man and a person who just refuses to work and is very poor. How do you think the garbage man would feel if he was forced into giving money to that lazy ne'er-do-well? Sure, you look at a person making next to nothing and a person with money coming out of his ears and you say "how is this possible?" Automatically, you say that the overly wealthy person should give money to the poor person. However, this is not always the case. Also, there are people who feel that people such as you and I (or our families) are too rich and don't need all this money. So you really cannot determine who is too rich.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I am kind of rambling here. I hope I got my point across. Although this solution seems attractive and fair, it realistically cannot be implemented in our society.
Read closer; I never mentioned the wealthy literally handing money to the poor. In reality, when someone has less taxes, they make more money. And when someone has more taxes, they make less money.
ReplyDeleteIt's the same thing Obama wanted to do
I wasn't saying that they directly give money to the lower class; rather, they indirectly do through taxes. Plus, decreasing taxes does not increase the amount of money a person makes, only the amount of money they keep. So, a person could still have a very low-paying job and still be in the lower class, they would just have a little more money than before. In order to "drag everyone into the middle class," the poor will either need the government to give them money (like giving the money from the rich to the poor) or will need to be educated in order to have higher paying jobs. Again, someone will have to pay for their education. Both scenarios involve the poor receiving money from the government. The government will have to get this money from somewhere, like the increased taxes on the rich.
ReplyDeleteAll I was saying in the garbage man-ne'er do well example was that some poor people are undeserving and that people would view it as unfair that some of their hard-earned money would go towards that lazy bum out of "fairness." Sure, some poor people are deserving of money - they work just as hard as anyone else, but do not get paid enough. Others do not even try and should get nothing. Weeding out the undeserving would require too much time and effort.
It is important to remember that being very wealthy is not entirely a bad thing. People with lots of extra money can invest in businesses and allow those businesses to grow and create jobs. However, sometimes these businesses become corrupt and the money cycles back to the rich CEO's. That is where government needs to step in and make things "fairer."
So, I leave you with this. Having very rich people can be a good thing, with proper governmental regulation. If everyone was in the middle class, business couldn't grow and expand. Also, if everyone made relatively the same amount of money, it really wouldn't be fair. Why should a doctor be paid about as much (or have the same amount of income, however you wish to phrase it) as a waiter at a fast food restaurant? It is these kind of things that make your plan unrealistic and almost paradoxical.
Sorry if I rambled again. If you have any questions/comments/concerns (or wisecracks!) or just plain out disagree with something I said, do not hesitate to post.
So you pretty much disagree with Obama then?
ReplyDeleteI could just say that neither of us will ever be right and close the discussion (Ahem...) but I'll leave it at that and keep it open.
I wouldn't agree with him if he taxes the rich to the extent that the upper class ceased to exist. However, if he taxes them moderately, I would have nothing against it.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I will reopen the post, but I will not respond to any comments that are basically the exact same thing that you have already stated - "No, you are wrong because..." I will never be able to convince you that you are wrong and I am right and vice versa. We will get NOWHERE if we continue this back-and-forth!
I was exaggerating a little when I made the post, as in, I didn't mean that upper class would go extinct.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you cannot convince be that you're right because you don't give me good enough evidence that you're right. I cannot convince you because you refuse to believe that you can be wrong.
Well then that is a different story. Yes, I would agree with taxing the upper class, just as long as it isn't to the extent that the class disappears into the middle class, which would be like communism.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I am not refusing to believe I am wrong. Talk to Brad this weekend or on Monday. I proved today at lunch how 0 = ∞. If there was no possible way for me to show it, then yeah, I would be wrong. But I have showed it correctly. And therefore, I am not wrong. Whether or not you choose to accept what I say is a totally different story. Your explanation of "If I have an infinite amount of no ice cream, I still have no ice cream," doesn't work. Since you cannot physically show an infinite amount of no ice cream, you cannot physically prove it. However, I have mathematically proven it. You just choose to not believe it because of your incorrect counterexample. Oh, and don't bother bashing me for all of that on this post. From now on, let's debate it on the original post. I reopened it to comments and have decided to allow you to post whatever you want to say. However, don't get annoyed or upset or surprised if we end up right where we have gotten so far - nowhere. And I do not say that because I concede in this argument! Oh no, do not even go there. Like I have said many times already - me saying I'm right and your wrong and you saying you're right and I'm wrong will lead nowhere because no matter how we try to show/prove that our idea is correct, we will never get the other to accept/believe this. So, maybe we should just let sleeping dogs lie, as they say (again, not conceding).
lol wut? Jeff's post starts out being about how he thinks Obama should run the country and all of the sudden, it gets back to "Does 0=infinty?" Jesse, let it go already!
ReplyDeleteHey, Jeff was the one who brought that up, not me. So you should tell him off. Besides, I told him to comment on the original post.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, back to Obama.
Tell me off on my own Blog?
ReplyDeleteBACK TO OBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDelete(okay I'm done)
READ THIS WHOLE THING FIRST! This comment has nothing to do with this post. I just wanted to ask you something before I forget. Why is the profile of one of your Followers blocked? I can see Dan, Jesy, Jesy again, Kristen, Adam, and me. But one of them has no picture and the profile is hidden. Who is it.
ReplyDeleteI don't know.
