About Me

Hola. (That's hi in Spanish) That's me on the left. As you can tell from the picture, I'm a very skinny person, as well as being a 2-dimensional being. Unless you're from my school, you only know me as words on your computer screen. Remember that the next time you get frustrated with your computer

Alright, this is annoying

Last night I discovered something horrible. Something very, very bad.

They blocked Microsoft Word.

No, I'm not lying.

This is unbelievable. WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS?! Previously, these computers could do two things: Go on the Internet and write documents. Now they can only go on the Internet. THEY TOOK AWAY 85% OF THE USEFULNESS OF THESE PAPERWEIGHTS.

We cannot print. We cannot take notes. We cannot do anything now. I have to resort to using the Sticky Note Application. However, knowing them, it'll be blocked in due time.

I'm glad that the school would be generous enough to give 5 pounds of plastic to each person. No, that's not all. They're expensive, about $1000 each. Talk about generous!

I hope they see this, I really do. I wonder if they even realize what they've done.

I'll probably be told to take this down anyway, God forbid someone criticizes them.

EDIT: I just realized that this block only affects some students. I guess they only blocked people who haven't done anything wrong.

EDIT again: Alright, I guess they fixed it. Read the comment for more info if you want.

  1. Yeah, that was really annoying. They finally fixed it about 5 minutes ago for me. Anyway, the explanation for what happened is (this is from a student, not the Tech Department) is that they changed how they blocked things. There are two types of lists concerning blocks - a whitelist and a blacklist. The whitelist is the list of all applications you are allowed to use and the blacklist is the list of the one's you are not. They used to put applications on the blacklist and anything not on the blacklist was on the whitelist. They now switched it to putting applications on the whitelist and anything not on the whitelist is on the blacklist. When they added programs to the whitelist, they did not add the auxiliary programs needed to run the main programs. For example, Microsoft Word, the main program, requires some auxiliary programs to run. One of these is apparently Microsoft Database Daemon. They didn't add this to the whitelist, so it was on the blacklist, and Word was no longer able to run.

  2. This happen to me too. Because of it, I wasn't able to hand in my homework for history. But on Wed, during my lunch period I wasn't able to open ANYTHING! Ask Julia or Lauren, because they were there. But everything on my laptop was block. I was happy because I thought I would be able to get out of English, but right when I got to English it started working, including Word. But this morning, Word was working. The tech-department fixed it when I got there. But my computer died at the start of 8th period. So yeah.......that's my story. MY TEACHER THREW SEÑOR LAPIZ OUT THE DOOR!!!!
